Conjunctions

Conjunctions are words that link sentences and parts of sentences together. Some of them are similar like in English and have equivalent translations.

Pese kätesi ennen kuin alat syödä!
Wash your hands before you start eating!

Tiedän, että Helsinki on Suomen pääkaupunki.
I know that Helsinki is the capital of Finland.

Pelaamme tänään jalkapalloa, jos ei sada.
We will play football today, if it doesn't rain.
koska because, since
Opiskelen suomea, koska tahdon muuttaa Suomeen.
I study Finnish, because I want to move to Finland.
kuin than
Valas on suurempi kuin norsu.
A whale is bigger than an elephant.
Juon teetä mielummin kuin kahvia.
I drink tea rather than coffee.
kun when
Hän tuli sisään kun olin syömässä.
He entered when I was eating.
kunnes until
Opiskelen, kunnes osaan kaiken.
I will study, until I know everything.
